The Museum Experience
The tour begins with an exploration of the local landscape, highlighting the connection between the Po River, poplar groves, and the domesticated pig—particularly the Parmesan black pig. Visitors also learn about St. Anthony Abbot, often depicted with a pig, symbolizing his bond with the animal.
The museum traces the story of the Spigaroli family, who transformed from sharecroppers working for composer Giuseppe Verdi into acclaimed restaurateurs. Visitors discover the tradition of the Masalén, expert pork butchers who perfected the art of Culatello production.
A Culinary Journey
The museum showcases the process of transforming a pig's leg into Culatello, with insights from famous figures like Giuseppe Verdi and Gabriele D'Annunzio. The tour ends in a gallery of aged Culatellos and the Hostaria del Maiale e del Culatello, where tastings can be enjoyed by reservation.
Explore the Po Forest
Outside the museum, visitors can explore the Po Forest, a 1.5-kilometer trail along the Po River, offering a closer look at the region’s natural beauty through 12 stages, accompanied by an audio guide.
Antica Corte Pallavicina combines history, nature, and gastronomy, making it a must-visit for food lovers and history enthusiasts alike.
